LAND HOE! Landscape Design and Renovation The simple beauty of this evergreen shrub alone makes this plant worth
placing in your landscape, but the intoxicating fragrance that comes with
its winter blooms makes it a special selection. This shrub will grow to
approximately 4' in height with a slightly wider spread, and is covered
with thick glossy variegated leaves 3" in length. It blooms in February
- March with small pink to deep pink flowers, emitting the fragrance Daphnes
are known for. Winter Daphne has very particular planting requirements.
You will need to dig the planting hole 2 times as wide as the root ball
and 1 1/2 times as deep. Plant with a mixture of 1 part soil, 1 part coarse
sand, and 2 parts ground bark. Be sure to plant slightly higher than the
surrounding soil. Remember to plant this Daphne out of direct sunlight,
because it prefers partial shade and do not water during the summer as
it prefers a dry season for its root system. |
